Milwaukee Tools Apprentice of The Month - Will Gore

Apprentices are expected to truly hit the ground running. Sometimes it takes a little while for the confidence and experience to manifest, but other times it is clear from the outset that someone is absolutely meant for our trade. The inaugural apprentice of the month for January, second-year Will Gore, embodies this ideal and is a perfect example of what makes an incredible apprentice and, soon enough, journeyman.

“To me, this is a chance to do something for myself and do it right,” says Will when asked what his apprenticeship means to him. “I went through a different electrical program first and that felt like doing the bare minimum. This apprenticeship feels like the big leagues.”

From the time Will has been in the Union he has been turning heads and having his supervision take notice. One person who not only took notice of Will but also made a big impact on him is journeyman Donny Thielen.

“Will is a very reliable, very smart young man,” says Donny. “He is a good guy who never complains, gets the job done, and does it right. He’s been one of my favorite apprentices to work with.”

In addition to his work in the field, Will has roundly kept excellent grades in the classroom.

“Will was a bright spot the moment he got into class,” says Will McKee, Will’s first-year instructor. “Will asked awesome questions that always clarified the information being discussed in class and I know his classmates had excellent aid if they sat next to him.”

Will brings with him tons of experience from already having worked in the electrical field. When it comes to advice for other apprentices, he talks about pride in work and how he views the importance of his quality of production.

“Take advantage of being an apprentice as much as you can. When you’re a journeyman, those mistakes carry a different weight,” says Will. “I’ve always been a person who is embarrassed to put my name on bad work. I have friends in this trade and I always ask myself, ‘Is this something I would be proud to show them?’”

For his hard work, Will will receive a PACKOUT bag and hand tools from Milwaukee Tools and congratulations from the JATC and its staff.
