Apprentice of the Month - Brian Thompson

Tenacity and self-motivation are one of the most iconic marks of an apprentice. Whether they are moving giants stacks of materials or learning the intricacies of the electrical trade, it takes a devotion and consistency to become successful. These, without a doubt, are the attributes of this month’s apprentice of the month, Brain Thompson, a fifth year who has proven his mettle and fortitude as a soon-to-be journeyman.

“It’s just my personality,” says Brian when asked what it is that drives him to excel in this trade. “I’m all the way in or I’m all the way out. I take it seriously and I always try to be laser-focused. There’s a feeling of being part of something, from being in the apprenticeship and the Union.”

Brian has shown his ability in the field, making an impact on those around him, especially journeyman Matt Sampson with whom he works at the Capital Annex.

“He is on his way to being a foreman,” says Matt. “He is extremely reliable, determined, and intelligent. He is a good friend and worker.”

In addition to his work in the field, Brian also has made an impression with his fourth year instructor, Brendan Nelson.

“Brian is awesome, he really cares about his apprenticeship,” says Brendan. “He always wants to make himself more of an asset to those around him. He’s a pleasure to have in the classroom.”

“Have a good attitude, that is the biggest thing,” says Brian when asked if he had advice for up-and-coming apprentices. “Communicating with other people is key. But you also need to be a sponge for information. Be a go-getter, be friendly, have a pen and pencil and be ready.”

For his hard work, Brian will receive a PACKOUT bag and hand tools from Milwaukee Tools and congratulations from the JATC and its staff.
