Apprentice of the Month - Elijah Hascall
There is no world in which an apprentice is brought into our program and immediately expected to know everything there is in the mire that is code and terminology in the electrical industry. There are those that strive to understand all the nuance, all the particulars over the course of their apprenticeship and it is those apprentices who thrive most. One such apprentice who has proved his mettle is fourth-year Elijah Hascall, April’s Milwaukee apprentice of the month.
“This is a career I have really liked so far,” says Elijah, having just completed his third-year schooling. “I like the ability to see the finished work, especially that sense of accomplishment. I love working with my hands and not being in the same place every day.”
Elijah has consistently been a bright spot on his job sites to the point where he is identified as one of the biggest reasons the job finishes on time and under budget.
“Elijah is one apprentice that goes above and beyond,” says Ray Rodarte Jr., Elijah’s former foreman. “He prides himself on his efficiency and you don’t have to micromanage him. His consistency of accuracy on every task at hand helped us so much.”
Not content to just excel in the field, Elijah also pushes himself in the classroom to reach the heights he has set for himself.
“Sometimes I have to work really hard to get concepts in class,” says Elijah, expressing a sentiment every apprentice has had going through this arduous program. “I am very competitive. I want to be a good electrician when I turn out and I have to do what it takes to get there.”
“I don’t expect everyone to come in to class and have this dialed in perfectly. Elijah always goes the extra distance to make sure he isn’t just passing the test but that he’s also learning it for his career, too,” says Brian Stauffer, third-year instructor. “He cares about what he is learning and wants to be a great electrician. I see him achieving that.”
For his hard work, Elijah will receive a PACKOUT bag and hand tools from Milwaukee Tools and congratulations from the JATC and its staff.
