Do I need an Electrical Trainee card to work as a CW?

YES, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) requires all CW’s to have an active Electrical Trainee Card.

What do I need in order to renew my Electrical Trainee card?

You will need a renewal application and a copy of your current transcript showing 150hrs of class time. You can obtain these from the Sacramento JATC or the school where you attended the classes.

What if I have already completed an Electrical Trainee Program?

You will need a renewal application and a copy of your Completion Certificate to submit to DIR.

How much does it cost to get my Electrical Trainee card?

ET cards are free to renew IF you renew prior to the expiration date. Otherwise, there is a $25.00 fee.

Do I have to go to class?

YES. Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) requires 150 hours of in-class education per year in order to maintain an active Electrical Trainee card.

What if I cannot make a class on my scheduled date and time?

You will need to contact the Assistant Training Coordinator and communicate the conflicting issue at hand.

What if I have been working without an active Electrical Trainee card?

Unfortunately, any hours worked without an active Electrical Trainee card will not go towards your 8,000 hours which is required to take the State Certification test.

How long is school for a Construction Wireman?

Construction Wireman go to school for 3 years. In that time, you will have completed the following courses: ET1-ET6. Once you have completed all 6 courses you will receive a certificate of completion for the Electrical Trainee program here at the JATC. (1 per semester, 2 per year)
