Application Requirements and Process

Inside Wireman applications must be completed online.

We can provide assistance in the office to scan or upload files. Except for your sealed transcripts, original documents should be color copied PRIOR to arrival if you visit the office in need of help loading them into your application file. We will provide assistance to scan your files and will return them to you upon request if they are dropped off or mailed in. If you do not want your copies back, they will be destroyed.

Electricians perform many physically demanding tasks. These include, but are not limited to: digging and working in trenches; carrying materials and tools; using hand and power tools; moving heavy electrical equipment; lifting, positioning and fastening electrical equipment; working at various heights from ladders, scaffolds and suspension systems; crawling under floors and working in attics; working indoors or out, sometimes in extremes of hot, cold, wet or dry weather; and installing, troubleshooting and repairing motors, transformers, electrical fixtures and conduit.

Requirements

To apply:

  1. Complete an application form.
  2. Be at least 18 years old or older.
  3. Provide two (2) forms of identification: A valid driver’s license and one (1) of the following: Social Security card, birth certificate, or current U.S. Passport.
  4. Provide a copy of your high school diploma, college degree, or GED certificate.
  5. Provide an official transcript with the school’s seal showing:
    • Completion of 1 year of high school algebra or 1 semester of college algebra with a grade of C or better, or
    • GED passing scores.

Other methods to qualify:

  1. Apply as above (steps 1, 2, & 3 only) and document work of a minimum of two thousand (2000) hours specifically in the electrical construction industry. You may download the documentation worksheet from our website.

  1. Military veterans: Apply as above (steps 1, 2, & 3 only) and provide a DD-214 with a date of separation within the last 5 years. You can upload the DD214 directly to your online application.

After application:

  1. Aptitude Test: Applicants will be notified of a date to take the NJATC Aptitude Test. There is a test fee of $25. The Test takes approximately 2½ hours to complete and consists of Algebra, Technical Mathematics, and Reading Comprehension. Applicants will be notified of their test results. An applicant who does not pass the test may apply to re-test after 6 months have elapsed.
  2. Oral Interview: Applicants who pass the Aptitude Test will be scheduled for an in-person interview. Each applicant will be scored individually based upon their application, test result, and interview. The overall score will determine each applicant’s ranking in the pool of qualified candidates.
  3. Selection: Applicants will be selected in order of their ranking. Prior to being indentured, each applicant will be required to provide satisfactory results of a physical examination and a drug test provided by the JATC.

Step 3: Click "ok”

You will receive an email from the Training Center that provides you with access to the online application with instructions on how to submit the application.

Apply online:

  1. Login with the email and password you gave us at this link:

  1. Select “Application” from the menu at the top of the page.
  2. Under “Select Apprenticeship Program”, select "Inside Wireman."
  3. Then, click “Start Application.”
  4. Complete section numbers 2-4 that are shown at the bottom of the page.
    1. Click on “Edit Application” to see the items 2-4 that need to be completed.
    2. There is a submit button at the end of each section.
    3. Step number 1, the official transcript, must be mailed to the JATC.

    After you complete each section, click on the incomplete button to enter that part of the application.

  5. Once you have completed each section of the application, the button will change to complete.
    1. Once all the sections have been completed and we receive your official transcript, then the application will be marked “Done.”
    2. We will assign an application tracking number and schedule your next step.
