 What is an electrician trainee? 

 

All electricians working for a C-10 electrical contractor must be certified by the state of California. To work as an electrician, you must be one of the following:

 

  • Journeyman electrician certified by having passed the state exam.

 

  • Apprentice electrician indentured in a state-approved apprenticeship.

 

  • Electrician trainee enrolled in an electrician trainee program within a state approved school.

 

  • The Sacramento IBEW/NECA Electrical Training Center (SETC) is an approved school (#105) in partnership with American River College (ARC).

 

  • Attending a trainee class is mandatory by state law. Failure to attend class will void eligibility to work within the state.

 How do I become a trainee? 

 

Step 1

Fill out Application for NEW Registration of Electrician Trainee

§         Attach check or money order for $25 payable to:

DIR – Electrician Certification Fund

§         Provide a copy of application & check to IBEW Local 340

Step 2

Fill out an Application for Enrollment

Step 3

Fill out an ARC Registration Worksheet and register for class.

§         Submit online or walk-in with your Application for Enrollment to American River College (ARC).

§         Obtain receipt for proof of enrollment from ARC.

Step 4

Mail these documents to : DAS Electrician Certification Unit

                            PO Box 420603 San Francisco, CA 94142

1.       Application for NEW Registration of Electrician Trainee with $25 check

2.       Copy of Application for Enrollment

3.       Copy of proof of enrollment receipt from ARC

Forms with detailed instructions for Steps 1 – 3 are provided next.

Oval: Step 1


Fill out Application for NEW Registration of Electrician Trainee (Form DAS-ECF4)

A.  Fill out your name on the application EXACTLY as it is listed on your driver's license. Make sure to include all the digits in your driver's license # and fill out your date of birth.

B.  Fill out the drivers license number and state, birthday and mailing address correctly. Please keep in mind that this is where you will receive information from DAS.

C.  Skip the boxes marked [Optional] and Company information.

D.  Enter American River College/IBEW Sacramento for Approved School Name and 105 as the approved school number if you have registered to take a class there.

 

E.  You must attach a $25 check or money order to your application payable to DIR-Electrician Certification Fund.

Oval: Step 2

Fill out Application for Enrollment to Los Rios Community College District.

Note: If you were enrolled last semester as a student at Los Rios Community College or American River Community College (ARC), you can skip this step.

Walk-in Option:

  •  Complete the 6-page application included in this kit.

  • A “code sheet” for use on the application form is also included.

  • If you plan to register in person for one of the trainee classes, then drop off your application form at the same time at:

  • American River College, 4700 College Oak Dr., OR

  • ARC’s Natomas Center, Del Paso Road & Natomas Blvd

  • See location maps below.

Online Option:

  • Complete the online application found at: https://www.xap.com/Applications/Los_Rios_CCD/apply.html

Oval: Step 3

Fill out an ARC Registration Worksheet and register for class.

  1. Pick a one of the classes listed below from the semester schedule shown on the ARC website and then fill-out the ARC Registration Worksheet

  1. Register for the class and obtain a receipt for proof of enrollment to attach to the Application in Step 1.

  • Available 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mon - Sat and Noon to 10 p.m. on Sundays.

  • The system will require you to enter your Student ID Number or your social security number and your PIN number. Your initial PIN is your full birth date.

  • Dial (916) 286-4400 for local and out-of-state calls or (800)700-4144 if you are calling long distance within California.

Online:

  • Available 7 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Mon - Sat and 9 a.m. to 11:30 Sundays.

Walk-in Go to your campus admissions office to register.
